Andy Jassi: Amazon has no plans to introduce payments in cryptocurrency

The Amazon CEO said that the company is exploring the possibilities of digital assets, but is not yet ready to add a function to pay for goods with cryptocurrencies on the marketplace.

Andy Jassy, in an interview with Ross Sorki, said that the largest American online marketplace is not going to offer customers to pay for goods with cryptocurrency in the near future.

Jassi admitted that he did not invest in bitcoins and non-fungible tokens. At the same time, he looks to the future of cryptocurrencies and NFTs with interest and optimism.

“I don’t have bitcoins myself. We are probably not close to adding cryptocurrency as a payment mechanism to our retail business. But I believe that over time you will see more cryptocurrencies.”

Jassi believes that the market for non-fungible tokens has good prospects:

“You know, I expect the NFT market to continue to grow very rapidly.”

The Amazon chief said he can envision a future where the e-commerce giant sells NFTs. Since non-fungible tokens are digital images of real products, ranging from a website domain to music and digital works of art – the ownership of which is recorded on the blockchain:

“I think we may be able to trade NFTs in the future on our trading platform.”

Last summer, the e-commerce giant began exploring the possibility of cryptocurrency payments for the platform.

“We are inspired by the innovation taking place in the cryptocurrency space and are exploring how this can be implemented at Amazon,” the company said in a statement.

Amazon believes that the future will be built on new technologies that provide modern, fast and low-cost payments, and assure that they want to “bring this future to customers as soon as possible.”
