Aneel approves increase in tariff flags

The board of Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) approved this Tuesday (21) the new tariff flag values, an amount that is additionally charged on the electricity bill according to the difficulties in generating energy.

The approved proposal brings increases of around 60% in the values of the yellow and red tariff flags 1.

The value of the yellow flag will increase by 59.5%, from R$1,874 for every 100 kilowatts (kWh) consumed to R$2,989. Red flag 1, on the other hand, goes from R$3,971 to R$6,500 per 100 kWh, an increase of 63.7%. The most expensive level of the flag, red 2, went from R$9,492 per 100 kWh to 9,795, an increase of 3.2%.

Interim Director General Camila Bonfim pointed out that, despite the increases, the levels remain below the so-called “Water Scarcity” flag, which was adopted between August 2021 and April this year to cover the high costs of generation in the face of the water scarcity experienced in the period. . The extraordinary level resulted in an extra charge of R$ 14.20 for every 100 kWh consumed.

She also pointed out that the definition of values does not mean their immediate application since the tariff flag is defined monthly by the regulatory agency. Despite the validity of the new levels as of July, the expectation, due to the hydrological conditions, is that it will be kept green in the coming months, that is, without additional charge.

Despite the suggestion made by energy distributors to permanently create a tariff flag for extreme situations, the agency decided, at this moment, just to review the values of each flag.

Director Ricardo Tili suggested, however, that the agency take advantage of the “calm” that must exist on the subject considering the good weather conditions so that the methodology of tariff flags is studied further.
