The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) informed this Friday (27), that it will keep the green flag activated in November for all consumers connected to the national electricity sector. With the decision, the electricity bills continue without additional charge. The level should remain in force until the end of the year.
The green flag has been in effect for all consumers since April 16th. In a note, the director-general of the regulatory agency, Sandoval Feitosa, said that the flag for the next month confirms the projections made by the agency in June, when there was a review of the rates.
“On the occasion, Aneel pointed out that, despite the increase in the additional fees, the models indicated a high probability of being a Green Flag by the end of the year. The projections were confirmed and today it is possible to say, with great certainty, that the Flag will remain green until the end of the year”, he said.
According to the agency, the level reflects a comfortable level of hydroelectric reservoirs in the electricity sector, with approximately 56% of storage at the end of October, when the end of the dry season is approaching.
“The favorable situation of electricity supply results in a high contribution of hydroelectric generation to meet demand, without the need to activate additional resources of thermoelectric origin, more expensive and polluting.”
tariff flags
The tariff flag system was created in 2015 to indicate the costs of energy generation in the country to consumers and mitigate the impacts on energy distributors’ budgets.
Before, the cost of energy in times of greater difficulty for generation was passed on to tariffs only in the annual readjustment of each company, with interest. In the current model, resources are charged and transferred to distributors on a monthly basis through the “Bandeira account”.
The green flag, when there is no additional charge, means that the cost of producing energy is low. The yellow and red flags 1 and 2 represent an increase in the cost of generation and the need to activate thermal plants, which is mainly linked to the volume of the reservoirs.
