Aneel maintains the green flag in March and the electricity bill continues without additional fees

The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) informed this Friday (24) that it will keep the green tariff flag triggered in March. With the decision, which reflects the good conditions for power generation in the country, electricity bills will continue without additional charges for the next month.

The green flag is in effect for all consumers connected to the national electricity system since April 16th. According to the regulatory agency, the level “reflects the improvement in the levels of the hydroelectric reservoirs, benefited from the rainy season.”

In a note, the general director of Aneel, Sandoval Feitosa, highlighted the importance of maintaining the green flag, which demonstrates the supply of sufficient electricity to meet demand. The flag system “enables consumers to know the situation of energy generation on a monthly basis”, he said.

The tariff flag system was created in 2015 to indicate the costs of energy generation in the country to consumers and mitigate the impacts on the budgets of energy distributors.

Before, the cost of energy in moments of more difficulties for generation was passed on to tariffs only in the annual readjustment of each company, with interest. In the current model, resources are charged and transferred to distributors on a monthly basis through the “Flags account”.

The green flag, when there is no additional charge, means that the cost of producing energy is low. The yellow and red flags 1 and 2 represent an increase in the cost of generation and the need to activate thermal plants, which is mainly related to the volume of the reservoirs.
