The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) proposed, this Tuesday (13), to make the addition of Pix mandatory as an option for payment of electricity bills.
The agency opened a public consultation on the subject, which will be open for 45 days — from Wednesday (14) to October 31. After this period, the process will return to the vote by Aneel’s board of directors.
If approved, distributors will have a period of 90 days to adapt to the change.
Regardless of the measure, other forms of payment, such as barcode and debit, would remain valid.
According to Aneel, the measure is intended to standardize the service offered by distributors, in such a way that everyone can have access to payment via Pix.
This is because, currently, while some distributors have already joined the novelty, others do not even have an implementation forecast.
For the agency, the new option improves the consumer’s experience in the payment of their energy bills and reduces operating costs for distributors, which, ultimately, can result in low tariffs – that is, ensure universality for the use of the public service, allowing access to the poorest.
