Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) reported this Monday (16) that there are seven cases of attacks against electricity transmission towers in three states. Among the seven cases, the agency identified four collapsed towers.
In all, Aneel counts three occurrences in Rondônia, two in Paraná and two in São Paulo. Three towers were knocked down in Rondônia and one in Paraná, and another 12 were damaged, four in Paraná, two in São Paulo and six in Rondônia.
Last Saturday, the ONS (National Electric System Operator) identified what would be the fourth case, in the state of Rondônia, between the municipalities of Pimenta Bueno and Vilhena.
The occurrence was at 6:43 pm on Saturday (14). The report indicates that the causes are still being identified, but there are reports that structural elements – such as steel cables and screws – would have been removed from the equipment that fell. The cause of the tower’s collapse is being investigated, with evidence of vandalism, according to the landowner.
The ONS says that, after the fall of the tower, there was an automatic disconnection of the transmission line. Despite this, there was no significant effect on the supply of electricity to the National Interconnected System (SIN).
Professionals from the responsible agent are working to return the equipment to operation as soon as possible, but there is still no forecast for the return of operation of the affected section.
In addition to the four last week (see below), and this one on Saturday, in Rondônia, vandalism was also recorded without collapsing a tower in the city of Tupãssi, in the interior of Paraná, on the transmission line between Foz do Iguaçu (PR) and Ibiúna (SP), under the responsibility of Furnas, on Friday (13).
And, on Thursday (12), another act of vandalism without the demolition of a tower in the city of Palmital (SP). The tower is on a line operated by the company ISA CTEEP between the cities of Assis and Andirá, in the interior of the state.
Other cases
On Friday (13), a fourth electricity transmission tower was vandalized in the city of Rio das Pedras, in the interior of São Paulo in the region of Piracicaba.
According to Aneel, the tower belongs to the transmitter Taesa and the authorities were contacted in the face of “clear evidence” of an attempt to overthrow a tower of the transmission line that connects the cities of Assis and Sumaré, both in the interior of São Paulo.
The report made to the authorities mentions the removal of some support elements from one of the power towers at the site.
Aneel informs that the occurrence was detected on Thursday, the 12th, at 2:27 pm. Vandalism has already been reported to the Ministry of Mines and Energy and security authorities.
Taesa works on equipment repair. According to Aneel, “there was no significant damage to the transmission facilities and there was no interruption in the power transmission supply”.
On the night of Sunday (8) to Monday (9), three electricity transmission towers were knocked down in Paraná and Rondônia and, according to Aneel, with evidence of “sabotage” and “vandalism”. The cases took place hours after the criminal action that invaded the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília.
The Agency says it has kept the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) informed of all events, as well as interacting with public safety authorities.
