Colombian anesthesiologist Andres Eduardo Oñate Carrillo, arrested this Monday (16) for rape of a vulnerable person and storing and sharing images of abuse against children and adolescents, confessed to the crimes. He testified at the Child and Adolescent Victim Police Station, responsible for the investigation. He also stated, according to Civil Police sources, that he did not know where the compulsion he had for the crimes came from.
The man was taken to a prison in Benfica, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, where he will await a custody hearing. He was arrested in the house where he lives with his wife, in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone. According to the Police, his wife, who is also a doctor, found it hard to believe that her husband was committing the crimes. Andres used to make romantic posts for his wife on social media, including a marriage proposal made at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
The doctor is suspected of having committed at least two rapes of women who had been sedated by him during surgeries in public and private hospitals, in 2020 and 2021. He even filmed the abuses, one of which was committed against an elderly woman. The two patients have already been heard by the Civil Police and claimed not to remember anything, since they were unconscious.
In addition, the police found more than 20,000 scenes of abuse against children and adolescents, committed by other people, but stored in the anesthesiologist’s devices. It was these images that raised the suspicions. The police began to investigate and found out that he also practiced the rapes. The Police are investigating whether he sold these images.
Investigations began in December 2022, from the sharing of information by the Federal Police’s Service for Repression of Hate Crimes and Child Pornography. Now the police will raise all the units in which the doctor works and try to find new possible victims.
The Regional Council of Medicine (Cremers) and the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) reported that they were not notified of the court decision. But they said they opened an investigation to investigate the case, leading to the suspension of the man.
