Angelina Jolie criticizes the countries that censored ‘Eternals’ for having a homosexual character

Eternals It painted to be one of the most successful films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the reality has been very different and the film has had several problems, since its launch delay due to the covid-19 pandemic, low box office sales after its premiere until the prohibition of its projection in some countries.

This last point has caused the actress Angelina Jolie, who is part of the main cast of the film, to label the countries that censored the film in their cinemas as ignorant, since her only reason for doing so is that the film presents a character openly homosexual. As expected, this already provokes reactions on social networks.

Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman have banned the screening of Eternals in movie theaters, generating controversy on social networks and anger on the part of some members of the film’s cast.

According to the media, the reason for this censorship is the appearance of the first openly homosexual character in the Marvel Universe, who is played by actor Brian Tyree Henry, who plays Phatos, a superhero who is married to a man. with whom you have a child in common.

After these countries made the decision to censor the film, actress Angelina Jolie, who plays Thena in said production, spoke out against and defended the work of all her colleagues.

I still don’t understand how we live in a world where there are people who still can’t see this character’s family and the beauty of their relationship and the love that there is.

The fact that someone is upset, feels threatened, does not approve of it or does not appreciate it, is ignorance.

But this is not all. Countries such as Qatar and Kuwait also banned the film, considering the intervention of gods in the plot as blasphemy. Given this, actor Haaz Sleiman, who plays Phatos’ husband, said that governments could try to stop production, but in the end, the fans they would see the film one way or another and would be happy with the outcome that Marvel prepared for them.

I have no respect for those governments. They have shown the world that they are not just an embarrassment to humanity, but to God. Hopefully this inspires the Saudi, Kuwaiti and Qatari people to react.

They will find a way to see it, even if it is illegal, and they will challenge their governments. Even when something is forbidden, there is a way.
