Anger for American tourist who … flirts with the statue of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen

An American tourist who climbed the statue of the Little Mermaid and began to… flirt with him. 19-year-old tourist Dylan Trinkler captured on video last Saturday (September 9) the strange scene with the tourist to tenderly embrace the “Little Mermaid” despite the signs stating that “it is forbidden to climb the sculpture”, the base of which was vandalized by strangers last March by painting a Russian flag, reports the Mirror.

Unveiled in 1913, the sculpture is made of bronze and granite and sits in the water at Langelinie Pier. The Little Mermaid is inspired by the famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, “The Little Mermaid” about a mermaid who gives up everything to join a young, handsome prince on land.

The images show the unknown woman mounted on her famous symbol Copenhagen and of Denmark rubbing her nose against the statue’s, a scene that angered the audience, according to Dylan. “There was a crowd of about 100 people and everyone was watching in confusion,” Dylan said. “The Danes used to say: “This is the danish heritage” and how “This is art!“”.

“Also, many were booing and shouting for her to get down. He started pretending to succeed with the sculpture and people were outraged. They started asking her why she did it, saying it was disrespectful, but she just laughed. When he got off, he went over to the woman he was there with and started yelling and kissing her. It was strange.”
