Turkish protesters clashed with police overnight in anger demonstrations following an explosion that killed hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza hospital while new marches are planned for today.
Palestinian officials said the explosion was caused by an Israeli airstrike. Israel attributed the explosion at Al-Ahli Al-Arabi hospital to a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organizationwhich denies liability.
The president Tayyip Erdogan calling the blast “the latest example of Israeli attacks that lack most basic human values.” The Turkish presidency’s communications office quickly labeled Israel’s claim #FakeNews” on Platform X. Overnight, Turks marched with Palestinian flags, chanting anti-Israel slogans in at least 10 Turkish citiesincluding outside the Israeli embassy in the capital Ankara.

Police used pepper spray and water cannons to disperse the thousands of protesters who tried to enter his compound Israeli consulate to Constantinople. Five people were taken into custody, the Istanbul governor’s office announced.
There was a heavy security presence around the consulate today, with hundreds of police and around 10 water cannon vehicles deployed behind metal barriers. The police checked the details of those who wanted to pass through that point. According to political analysts, the explosion at her hospital Gaza could have adverse consequences on relations between Israel and Turkey.

“Ankara is now likely to adopt a much tougher anti-Israel stance, particularly as the IDF offensive on Gaza is expected to intensify in the coming days, with inevitable humanitarian costs,” Teneo’s Wolfgang Piccoli said.
“Erdogan may even decide to abandon the rapprochement with Israel, which began in 2022 after more than 10 years of strained relations between the two countries…A deterioration in relations between Turkey and Israel is also likely to affect relations Turkey-US, causing further tension between the two allies in NATO in a volatile period,” he added.
