White sands, turquoise sea and coconut trees that cast a shadow against the strong sun in a cloudless blue sky. Empty beaches with waves as a soundtrack and refreshing alcoholic drinks in your mouth. when you think about caribbean this is probably the classic scenario that comes to your mind.
This could also be the perfect description of anguilla but perhaps the tiny island of just over 15,000 inhabitants is not the first destination that comes to mind.
In fact, the British Overseas Territory in the Eastern Caribbean is still little known around the world and until recently it was difficult to access, making the location isolated from the rest of the region 🇧🇷
This fact, however, ensured that the piece of land offered another type of vacation: that of disconnection in contrast to the hustle of the rest of the world and the feeling of refuge 🇧🇷 Anguilla is not the route of big cruises and here there are no big casinos, clubs filled with young people or programs that go on into the night.
On the contrary: the big resorts value calm and privacy – and you pay a high price for that – in addition to villas and houses being very popular for peaceful vacations for couples and families.
Soon, Anguilla became a “hidden” destination that celebrities, especially Americans, seek to get away from the paparazzi, relax in a super-luxury five-star hotel and have fun on yachts. Names like Paris Hilton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock and Beyonce have already chosen the destination for their vacation.
Filled with pristine beaches of a mesmerizing turquoise blue, unique cuisine and luxury hotels, it’s no wonder that Anguilla is present in the rankings of the best islands and beaches around the world. This year, he joined the list of 10 best islands for beaches in the world by the specialized magazine “Condé Nast Traveller”, with emphasis on the beach of Shoal Bay.
Also this year, the Cap Juluca, five star resort operated by the Belmond chain on the beach at Maudays Bay, was elected one of the 500 best hotels in the world by Travel+Leisure🇧🇷 There are plenty of reasons, then, to put Anguilla in the Caribbean itinerary.
Curiosities: surprising numbers

In addition to all these factors and the few inhabitants, Anguilla still has other interesting curiosities: the island has only 91 km² – that is, is almost four times smaller than Beautiful island on the north coast of São Paulo – which explains that it is possible to travel from one end to the other by car in half an hour.
Despite its small size, Anguilla surprises with its high-quality hotel structure, where super-luxury chains such as Belmond and Four Seasons operate hotels that offer exquisite stays that combine gastronomy and experiences in this almost untouched part of the Caribbean.
In numbers: according to the Anguilla Tourism Board, there are 12 large luxury hotels and resorts, totaling 881 rooms, 10 small hotels, 20 inns (called here guest houses) and more than 300 villages.
The closest island to Anguilla is the charming São Martinho, which is divided into Saint-Martin (French side) and Sint Maarten (Dutch side) 🇧🇷
And it is precisely the plane route between the Dutch side and Anguilla that makes it the world’s shortest international commercial flight : aboard a light aircraft with only 10 seats, the journey takes 10 minutes and has already become an attraction in itself.
The arrival to paradise
If all the attributes mentioned above already sparkle the eyes, Anguilla also debuted another facility for those who want to have a special taste of the Caribbean. American Airlines daily flights connecting Miami to the island in approximately three hours has been a reality since the beginning of April.
Last December, the airline started with two weekly flights. In January, the number increased to three, until the decision was made to make the connection between the two countries a day aboard the Embraer 175 aircraft, which carries around 90 passengers. Thus, the route came to make it possible for tourists to enter Anguilla and make it easier for residents to go to the United States.
