Delegate Nei Loureiro, from the Petrópolis police station, confirmed to the CNN this Thursday (26) that the body found concreted in Teresópolis is that of lawyer Anic Herdy, who has been missing since February this year.
Identification was carried out by analyzing the dental arch. A cell phone found next to the lawyer’s body will be examined in the coming days.
The lawyer’s body was found concreted in the backyard of the house of Lourival Correa Netto Fadiga — known as Gordo — the main suspect for the crime.
Agents from the 105th DP (Petrópolis) found the body in an extremely advanced stage of decomposition in the house located on Rua Alberto Sabin, in Teresópolis, Serrana region of Rio.
Additionally, there was a tourniquet around his neck and he was wrapped in bubble wrap.
A jackhammer had to be used to excavate the site, and it took the police a few hours to complete the removal as there were concerns about not damaging the body. Agents managed to remove the remains around 9:30 pm this Wednesday (25).
Crime
The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro carried out a search operation at Lourival’s house on the same day that he gave a statement at the 2nd Criminal Court of Petrópolis, where he confessed to the crime and reported that he had buried the body in your backyard.
Lourival claims that she was Anic’s lover and that the crime was ordered by her husband, Benjamin Cordeiro Herdy, 78 years old. In the statement he gave to the Court, Lourival stated that a conversation between him and Benjamin planning the crime was captured by a camera in the elderly man’s home.
According to Lourival’s defense, the cameras were seized at the request of the Public Ministry of Rio (MPRJ). The defense did not say what the motivations for the crime were.
However, the case delegate stated that, so far, there is no evidence of Benjamim’s participation in the crime.
THE CNN contacted the elderly man’s defense, but there was no response.
Remember the case
Anic de Almeida Peixoto Herdy, 54 years old, disappeared in the late morning of February 29 this year, shortly after leaving a shopping mall in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio, on foot.
On the same day as Anic’s disappearance, Benjamin Cordeiro Herdy, her husband, received messages from one of the cell phones she used. The texts demanded a ransom payment totaling R$4.6 million. The messages also advised that the family home was being monitored in real time and that no one should call the police.
The ransom demanded by the kidnappers was paid in the following days, through bank transfers and cash withdrawals.
The Petrópolis Civil Police were only called two weeks after the disappearance. The agents were informed of the disappearance after a complaint from Benjamin’s daughter, who recorded a conversation between the elderly man and Lourival.
From the beginning, the main line of investigation has been that the lawyer was kidnapped by Lourival Correa Netto Fadiga, who was the family’s trusted man. Lourival and three other people have been arrested since March, accused of extortion through kidnapping.
The Rio Civil Police investigation indicted four people. Lourival Correa Netto Fadiga is accused of being the mastermind of the crime. In addition to them, a couple of children and a woman, who had a relationship with Lourival, also respond as accomplices.
Anic Herdy was a lawyer and Psychology student. She had been married for two decades to Benjamin Cordeiro Herdy, 78 years old. Benjamin is the heir of a family that owned an important educational group in Rio. The couple lived in Petrópolis, in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro.
