Anitta and Larissa Manoela are on the list of those who earn the most with Instagram; see ranking

The website NetCredit has developed an algorithm to estimate how much money users make through Instagram. According to the company, it’s not just the number of followers that matters, but how prepared the person is to sell their name or how strong they are in a specific market.

The company pointed out that those profiles with just over one million followers can earn around R$80,000 per month. To calculate how much celebrities earned in 2021, they first listed those who were most followed in each country.

Then, they used numbers from an advanced Instagram list to estimate the amount paid per ad for each. Then they multiplied that amount by the number of sponsored posts made in 2021.

According to NetCredit’s calculations, Cristiano Ronaldo is the one who makes the most money from Instagram: in 2021, he raised US$ 85.2 million (R$ 453.7 million). The dispute on the fields has also moved to social media, as Lionel Messi follows close behind, having made $71.9 million last year.

Rounding out the top 3 in the world is Virat Kohli, an Indian cricketer, with US$36.6 million.

Brazil appears twice on the list, with Anitta, in 8th position, having raised R$85.2 million in 2021, and Larissa Manoela, in 9th place, with R$80.4 million.

Ivete Sangalo is in 12th position, with US$ 10.7 million (R$ 56.9 million). Neymar is in 15th, with US$ 9.3 million (R$ 49.5 million).

Methodology

The estimated amount each celebrity charged per post was thought through by cross-referencing Net Credit’s dataset with numbers from HopperHQ’s Instagram rich list.

For celebrities not on Hopper HQ’s list, average cost per follower rates were calculated for each type of celebrity in HopperHQ (eg sport, fashion, influencer, etc.) using the Random Forest statistical method.

The definition of a sponsored post was “one that is fully publicized (labeled “paid partnership”) or contains branded strings or hashtags such as #ad and #sponsored”.

Data were collected in May 2022.
