Anitta arrives at Free Fire: “Intention is to promote women in online games”

The singer anita launches, this Wednesday (29), the song “Tropa”. The launch was made especially for one of the most downloaded games in the world, the Free Fire which, on Saturday, July 2nd, will receive a character of the singer, the “Patroa”.

Produced in partnership with the producer Luck Muzik , son of Mr. Catra, the song and the video for “Tropa” mark a new front for the Brazilian pop star.

Anitta, who is also, for example, a bank director, a foodtech partner and a professor in a university course on entrepreneurship, now comes to e-sports.

“The main intention was to promote the female presence and respect [à presença feminina] in online games,” Anitta told reporters at a virtual press conference.

Touring Europe until at least mid-July, she was just hours away from taking the stage at the Roskilde festival in Denmark, when she sat in front of the Zoom screen.

Already dressed in the wig and makeup in the same way she performed at Rock in Rio Lisboa, she told the details of the partnership with Free Fire.

“It is still a little difficult to highlight trap in Brazil”

According to the Sensor Tower platform, Free Fire was the most downloaded game worldwide in the first quarter of 2022.

In this kind of “warm up” for the launch of her character in the game, Anitta chose to produce a song with strong influences from trap, a subgenre of rap, which is one of the most listened to styles in Brazil at the moment. Only in June, it is the second song of the type that the singer signs.

Questioned by CNN about the reason for this focus on trap at this moment, she argued that “while trap is a very popular rhythm in Brazil, it is still a little difficult to highlight trap artists in the country”.

“You don’t see it much in awards shows, you don’t see it in popular things, and I think they deserve that spotlight,” he added.

The producer chosen for the new partnership, Luck Muzik, is a prominent name in the “trap funk” style. He is also the son of Mr. Catra, a funk singer who died in 2018, who posthumously participated in Anitta’s latest album, “Versions of Me”.

“When Free Fire called me to make this song, I was already talking to Luck, just like I talk to several funk producers. They send me beats and we talk about making music together”, said Anitta.

“He was in Miami and it was an opportunity I saw to work with him and do something really cool.” The song was created and recorded from scratch in a studio near the singer’s home in Miami, and the clip was shot twice a day in São Paulo.

She reveals that, for the production of the song, she asked gamer friends for help to include in the lyrics some slang used in Free Fire.

And he says he sought to use this tool to make players feel more represented in the music.

“Whether you like it or not, these expressions were created by them. It’s like they’re all part of the lyrics. That’s why it’s a Free Fire song, it’s not even mine. I consider that I lent my voice,” she said.

Creation of the character “The Patroa”

Anitta’s involvement with online games began during the coronavirus pandemic. Covid-19 .

She says that she closed a contract during the quarantine to make live broadcasts playing, and ended up “getting addicted” to Free Fire.

“I continued to play even after the contract. Over the phone at the airport,” she says.

Despite not having chosen the name “A Patroa” for the character that will win, Anitta says that she created her exactly the way she wanted.

With the help of her personal stylist, “two Anittas” were created. “One is more fanciful, more of this gamer thing, and the other is more real-world, wearing shorts, a coat,” she said.

The character will be available in the game from this Saturday (2), and will be free only on the day of the premiere, informed the game’s advice.

Women in e-sports and the “Boss Cup”

In addition to the new character, Anitta’s arrival in e-sports was accompanied by the creation of the “Patron Cup”, a women’s Free Fire championship.

Considered the “godmother” of the tournament, the first edition had 24 teams competing and, on the 13th, the UP Gaming team was the first champion.

“I think that was the main intention. Promoting female presence and respect [à presença feminina] in online games. I think that, in general, there is a lot of prejudice and lack of respect for women who want to be in things that I don’t know who defined them as men,” said Anitta.

“When it’s a woman playing, people always say she’s going to be bad. For me [a parceria com Free Fire] it was an idea to stimulate and show that women rock a lot playing”, he added.

“[As mulheres] has the same quality, capacity and competence. So nothing fairer than giving it due relevance and due space,” he concluded.

With music, clip, character and tournament already guaranteed in this endeavor by e-sports, Anitta was surprised to hear that there is a possibility for artists to perform within the game, as Travis Scott did, in Free Fire itself, or Emicida, in Fortnite, for example.

“Oh my god, I didn’t even know this was possible. [risos] Let’s get together there, huh Free Fire? I don’t know how it works, but it would be really cool. I’m super open to doing it, I didn’t even know I could”, said Anitta.

With just over two hours to go on stage in Denmark, the singer ends the conversation with reporters. The advance, however, was of little use in the end.

“If you came to my show in Denmark. It’s going to be late… the van they sent was delayed by more than half an hour, and now this same van from the festival itself doesn’t know where to go and it’s still barred at the entrance hahahahaha I don’t know if this is tense or funny hahahaha,” he wrote on Twitter .
