Anitta pays homage to Imperatriz Leopoldinense in new show look

Singer Anitta chose Imperatriz Leopoldinense as the samba school represented in her new look for “Ensaios de Anitta”. The artist arrived in Rio de Janeiro this Sunday (21), for another performance of her Carnival block.

On her Instagram profile, Anitta spoke more about the samba school chosen to be honored this time, in addition to explaining the concept used in the costume. The singer has already taken the performance to Recife, Fortaleza, Brasília and Florianópolis.

“Today, my fantasy is inspired by the winning samba school of the 2023 Carnival, which highlighted the importance of 'literatura de cordel', a popular booklet/pamphlet containing novels, poems and folk songs. It is a traditional expression of Brazilian popular culture”, she said, in the caption of the publication.

“Imperatriz Leopoldinense, located in Ramos, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro, explored the stories presented in the books of northeastern poets, delved into the life after the death of Virgulino Ferreira da Silva, Lampião, and the duality portrayed in cordel literature, a fascination that it persists to this day”, he added.

Anitta explained that the show's look was inspired by the work 'Lampião's arrival to heaven', by Guaiapuan Vieira. “My costume captures the 'rising to the light' of Cangaceiro, often seen as a hero for fighting the misery of his people and the oppression imposed by landowners.”

For her Carnival 2024, the singer chose to highlight samba schools through costumes and the concept of the presentations that precede Carnival. The looks are designed by stylist Daniel Ueda and created by Michelly X.

The singer welcomes Lexa, Pedro Sampaio, Mc Daniel and L7nnon as guests at the show in Rio de Janeiro. Among the artists who will still join her on stage on the next dates are Menos É Mais, Djonga and Pocah.
