Ankara is calling for restraint to avoid a wider conflict in the Middle East

Turkey today called on all sides not to take steps that could lead to a wider conflict in the Middle East, following Israel's alleged attack on Iran in retaliation for the latter's strike against it. In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry says that the international community's priority should be to “stop the carnage in Gaza and ensure a lasting peace” in the region by establishing a Palestinian state. “It is becoming increasingly clear that the tensions, initially triggered by Israel's illegal attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, are in danger of turning into a permanent conflict,” it said.
