Ankara responded to Cyprus with anti-Navtex, with the Turkish side openly questioning the right of the Republic of Cyprus to issue Navtex. As reported by the Cyprus News Agency, Turkey’s anti-Navtex classifies the station of the Republic of Cyprus as an “unauthorized station” and claims that the Cypriot Navtex area “is within the service area of the Turkish navtex and the Turkish continental shelf”. The Turkish side also claims that “Cyprus referred to in MA92-250/24 is not the original partnership state established in 1960. Turkey states that the term ‘Cyprus’ does not amount to any form of recognition of its administration” – as stated in the Republic of Cyprus – “nor does it affect the rights and obligations of Turkey arising from the Treaty of Guarantees and the Treaty of Establishment of 1960”. Attempts to legitimize the illegal claims of the military administration through MA92-250/24 are invalid and have neither been nor will be accepted by the Turkish side. Source: RES
