Anna Angelikoussi Group Sells ‘Aged’ Tonaz and Discusses With Yards

Of George Georgiou

The “club” of Greek shipping that sells older tankers at attractive prices seems to include Pantheon Tankers, interests of Anna Angelikoussi.

Various shipping companies report that the shipping company provided the suezmax “Astro Perseus”, with a capacity of 159,116 dwt and built in 2004, for $ 18.5 million.

Ship broker says in Capital.gr that the final price is about $ 2 million higher than the market level for a steamer of this specification. The VesselsValue database values the “Astro Perseus” at $ 17 million.

However, the reason why the sale price of the ship “stung” so much has not been clarified yet, especially, in fact, since tanking is imminent, as reported by Seasure Shipbroking and Golden Destiny.

The “Astro Perseus” is one of the oldest tankers in the Pantheon. According to its website, it manages three more tankers with a year of construction in 2004, while it also controls one, which was built in 2003.

Based on the same data, its fleet consists of a total of 32 tankers, while four more are under construction, which will be delivered to the shipping company in 2022.

As it was said at the beginning, lately several deals for the sale of old tankers by Greek shipowners have been recorded.

A recent example is Maran Tankers, by Maria Angelikoussi, who allegedly donated the VLCC “Maran Corona”, with a capacity of 306,100 dwt and built in 2003, for $ 26.5 million.

Discussions with shipyards

However, apart from the sales of ships, the Anna Angelikoussi Group is also launching expansion moves.

As transferred to Capital.gr by freight brokers, the LNG arm of the Group, Alpha Gas is in discussions with Chinese shipyards for a possible order of LNG carriers. The construction of such a steamer is currently estimated at about $ 200 million.

It is noted that in recent months the company’s shipbuilding program in South Korea was completed for four LNG carriers, with a capacity of 173,400 cubic meters each.

In total, Alpha Gas controls five LNG carriers.

In contrast to the “troubled” tankers industry for about 1.5 years, fares in the LNG market have been on the rise lately, which also strengthens investment interest.

The History

Under the “umbrella” of Ms. Angelikoussi Group is Alpha Bulkers, which operates in bulk dry cargo, managing, based on its website, 33 such steamers.

In fact, earlier this year it became known that it acquired two newcastlemaxes, with a capacity of 210,000 dwt each. The total price for the two ships, which will be delivered in 2022, is estimated at 102 million dollars.

Anna Angelikoussi separated her fleet from that of her brother Giannis – who passed away last April – about two decades ago and followed her own shipping “route”.

Today, the group he has created is one of the largest in the domestic shipping community. In fact, a significant number of ships travel under the Greek flag.

It is noted that in 2020 Ms. Angelikoussi was distinguished as “Personality of the Year” for Greek shipping at the annual Lloyd’s List awards.
