Annalisa returns with Eva + Eva: “I don’t need a man who defines me”

The risk of stumbling into the traps of rhetoric, into banal statements, now repeated uncritically, becomes higher when the -isms take place in a discussion. Yet, in speaking of Annalisa, the specter of clichés is far away. The singer, who could simplify somebody to female solidarity (“Feminism”) has dedicated a song, Eva + Eva, it is straightforward, genuine. The danger of expressing oneself in dogmas is far away. Remote. “I think it can be easily avoided, when introspection is one word to push an action: the true story of an experience that can lead others to mirror it”, says Annalisa, whose path of authenticity has ancient roots. “I was a child submerged in dolls. I thought I had a clear idea of what my life should have been, and perhaps, for a while, I did. Then, I discovered that the world offers infinite possibilities and so I found myself, without superstructures “, says the singer, who has learned to free herself from clichés, gender stereotypes and other people’s judgments – also thanks to” teamwork, to relationships with extraordinary women, both privately and professionally “.

Eva + Eva it might almost sound like a love song.
“And in part it is. There was a hypothetical male figure in my head as I was writing. Then, I realized that what I most wanted to do was highlight the possibility of being accomplices, of teaming up, of confessing. The initial situation of celebration and sentimental involvement, therefore, is seen through the filter of a relationship between friends ».

Why Eve + Eve?
«To overcome the differences that we often impose on ourselves. I could have titled the song after a “Woman + Woman”. But man, woman, why always use these classic binomials, which at times, together with trivial, repeated and trite points of view, are the worst enemies of just battles? I wanted to refer to the human being, to embrace the person ».

And tell a feminine idyll that is often difficult to find. Personal experience?
«I wanted to find in this passage the extraordinary women with whom I share life and daily life. Furthermore, there is an aspect of self-affirmation which, for me, it was important to give a voice ».

Which?
“I don’t need a male figure who defines me and makes me feel complete, and I hope this passes. I have always been a very independent person and today I feel the need to be the viaticum of this message. There is a need, especially for the generations to come ».

Explain.
“We live in a society where gender differences are still very marked, especially within the education system. When a girl is born, she is given a doll as a gift. A child is given toy cars. There is an expectation, even unconscious but clear, of what life must be, and one must be careful. I was lucky, at a certain point I realized that there was more out there ».

And how did he do it?
“By observing my parents. I’ve always seen them bump into each other: teachers in the morning, tutors in the afternoons. They studied, they studied all the time. And looking at them, their dedication, I found myself curious, hungry for knowledge. I began to grasp the nuances, the infinite possibilities that the world offers us ».

Has becoming part of the world of entertainment slowed or encouraged you in your path towards awareness?
«If I look at the music, I am not able to identify a beginning. As far as I remember, it has always been there. I’ve always known singing was my talent. It was kind of instinctive. Then, once the passion was transformed into a profession, it was not easy. It took some time for me to figure out my way of doing things. In the end, however, I realized that I wasn’t able to build anything and so my path of liberation through music began ».

The Billie Eilish case reminds us, however, that women, especially if they are entertained, are required to be homologated to certain canons.
«I am on stage what I am in life. Thanks to my work, I began to have a series of attentions in the aesthetic field. I do my best to be the best version of me: I eat healthy, keep fit. And, today, I tell her that it is the right thing to do regardless of the profession. It makes me feel good to take care of myself, I am more proactive, open, sure of what I do “.

With social media, where aesthetics is not health but a need dictated by appearance, what relationship does it have?
«Social media, television, I believe that every means of communication has its importance. They are all complementary to the message I try to convey through my music. I always try to tell myself without filters, wherever I am, but I believe that the songs remain the most honest and sincere form for me ».

His path of liberation began with Bye Bye, in 2018. How it will evolve afterwards Naked?
“With Bye Bye, I said hello to a series of paranoia that had accompanied me until then. With Naked, I tried to get rid, visually and metaphorically, of every type of veil. Today, they are a blank sheet, on which the colors must be added. I would like to hide messages and concepts in songs that can entertain ».

Only in songs?
“I do not know. Abroad, a lot of artists – Madonna, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga – are able to involve their audience in a heterogeneous way, offering them messages of strength and food for thought through a product that knows how to entertain. I must confess, however, that the word entertainment linked to songs has always scared me a little ».

Like Lady Gaga, she could make movies …
“There are a lot of films that, over the years, have inspired me, led me to click. Cinema has this ability and, I believe, this duty. But honestly, I say that cinema is not my talent. I should prepare myself properly, perhaps, to do something related to music ».
