Announcement by Haddad secretaries will clarify economic policy, says economist

The choice of the team for the future finance minister of the elected government, Fernando Haddad, will be essential to indicate how the economic policy will be from next year, according to Gesner Oliveira, professor at FGV and partner at GO Associados.

“It will be very important to meet everyone who will help you, the team, the secretaries, because this will give you a better view of what the economic policy will be”, said the specialist in an interview with CNN this Saturday (10).

After being announced to the Treasury, Haddad told journalists that “he has already sounded out a lot of people” to occupy the positions of the ministry’s secretariat. But he pointed out that the definition will come out after conversations with the Minister of Planning, which has not yet been announced.

“Naturally there is a certain apprehension in the market due to the doubt about whether it is a profile that will control spending, that will say no when necessary, because the blanket is short”, says Gesner.

The expert points out, however, that the future Minister of Finance has virtues that can be positive.

“(Haddad) has a more political profile, although he also has a technical biography […] the proximity to the president gives him a lot of mandate in articulating with Congress, the fact that he has already participated in a significant debt negotiation in the city of São Paulo, has sought to establish a dialogue with major political forces, different currents of thought, they can be virtues that can make the Minister of Finance someone who contributes a lot to great challenges, such as settling public accounts”, he says.
