Annual inflation rises to 2.6% in March, the highest since August 2018

The consumer’s price index it rose 0.6% in March, above the expected increase of 0.5% and higher than the advance of 0.4% the previous month. The annual rate stood at 2.6%, after jumping from 1.7% in February. The annual rate is the highest since August 2018 and the monthly increase was the highest since 2012.

The underlying index it rose 0.3% in March, higher than the 0.2% market consensus. The underlying annual rate climbed to 1.6%, higher than the 1.5% expected and 1.3% in February. It is the highest annual rate since August 2018.

The dollar it weakened in the market following the data and fell on all fronts, amid a sharp decline in Treasury yields.
