What is Thanksgiving?

The main holiday in the United States, Thanksgiving was created to give thanks for the harvest and the abundance of food, but the tradition evolved so that people could give thanks for the positive events of the year that comes to an end. The date is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.

The date usually sees large rates of movement within the country, as families gather to eat a traditional Thanksgiving feast.

Lots of travel and severe weather conditions

US airports and major highways are packed with travelers taking advantage of their holiday break. Nearly 80 million people are expected to travel this week, according to the American Automobile Association.

Simultaneously, snow, coldest temperatures since February and a potentially severe storm are on the way. A “widespread blast” of cold Arctic air is approaching a large swath of the United States.
