The hacker group “Anonymous” today claimed responsibility for a cyber-attack that paralyzed the websites of many Russian media outlets, including state news agencies, extending the information attacks that have targeted several Russian official websites in recent days.
For a few minutes, the websites of the state news agencies TASS and RIA Novosti, the Kommersant newspaper, the Kremlin-affiliated Izvestia and Forbes Russia magazine posted a message calling for an “end” to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“We have been living like North Korea for a few years now. Why do we need this? For Putin to end up in the history books? It’s not our war, let’s stop it!” reported the message.
“This message will disappear and some of us will be fired, we may be imprisoned. But we can do no more,” the statement added, accusing media journalists of being “indifferent” of hacker attacks.
The attacks follow those carried out on Thursday by the same group against the websites of the Russian state television network RT (formerly Russia Today).
Yesterday, Saturday, the websites of the Kremlin, the Duma (lower house of parliament) and the Russian Ministry of Defense were shut down, an attack for which Anonymous also took responsibility on Twitter.
