An additional 500 US troops will be deployed in Germany, said US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during his visit to Berlin, signaling the reversal of plans of former President Donald Trump to withdraw about 12,000 troops from the country that is a member of NATO.
“We have stopped planning (to reduce troops),” Austin said in an interview with German counterpart Annegret Krab-Karenbauer today, according to AMPE.
“I informed the minister about our intention to permanently deploy about 500 additional U.S. troops “in the Wiesbaden region (West Germany) as early as this autumn,” he said.
“I believe that the deployment of an additional 500 troops shows the level of our partnership and commitment to NATO“, Added Lloyd Austin.
