This Wednesday morning (10), at around 6:20 am, lawyer Mariana Ramos was in her morning routine, walking with Garoto, her “caramel” dog, in Barra, a seaside neighborhood in Salvador, capital from Bahia. Around number 800, Avenida Oceânica, Mariana saw two large dogs loose and unsupervised.
“I saw it and was already alert, because the dogs were alone. I tried to move forward, but they both crossed. I immediately picked up Garoto and turned his back to the wall”, reports the tutor.
Even with Garoto on his lap, the loose dog jumped on Mariana and even grabbed the lawyer's hair. With the situation, Garoto became agitated and fell to the ground, that's when the attack began.
“I started screaming and hitting the dog. I don't remember exactly, I was on instinct to save the Boy's life. A lot of people passed by and didn't help, but there were people who stopped and that's what saved Garoto. I didn’t think about myself, I just thought about him”, recalls Mariana.

In the video circulating on social media, it is possible to see the owner and the caramel on the floor, while the other dog bites, without stopping, Boy, who completed three years of adoption last Monday (8).
“He is all injured, with internal pain and bruises. Emotionally, you can see that he is down. His behavior changed from yesterday to today”, says Mariana.

After the dog finally released Garoto, Mariana ran away and the two dogs, which were loose and unattended, disappeared. “I haven’t heard from them anymore,” said the tutor. Mariana also intends to register a police report.
Mariana picked up a very small boy, on the street, when he was 45 days old. “A guy who collects recyclable materials near where I live had a dog, Nina, she gave birth to six puppies. I found out and asked him. I was going to a doctor's appointment, that was April 8, 2021. When I got back it was raining heavily. Boy was the last one he picked up, it was hidden inside the recyclable material. When he showed it to me, I said: 'give it to me, it's this one'”.

Despite the scare, Mariana and Garoto are well and at home. Writer and poet Roseana Murray, 73, was not so lucky. Last Friday (5), she was violently attacked by pitbulls, in Saquarema, in the Lagos Region, in Rio de Janeiro. The times of the attacks are similar, around 6 am. Roseana remains hospitalized and her health status is stable, according to the Rio de Janeiro State Department of Health.
