The board of the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) approved the adjustment of 15.5% of individual and family plans for the period from May 2022 to April 2023. This is the biggest increase since the beginning of the historical series in 2000. .
The percentage defined is also the maximum that can be applied on top of the tuition reduced by the 2021 index.
According to ANS, the adjustment will encompass about 8 million contracts, which represents 16.3% of consumers of health care plans in Brazil.
The decision will be published in the Federal Official Gazette and the adjustment may be applied by the operator from the anniversary date of the contract, that is, in the month of contracting the plan.
The ANS explained that the calculation was based on the difference in healthcare expenses per beneficiary of individual health plans from one year to the next.
“In this way, the 2022 index results from the variation of assistance expenses that occurred in 2021 compared to the assistance expenses of 2020”, said the Agency.
In 2021, a negative adjustment was announced for the first time (-8.19%), which corresponded to a reduction in tuition fees from May 2021 to April 2022.
This resulted in a 17% drop in total procedures, including consultations, exams, therapies and surgeries performed in 2020 by health plans, as a result of restrictions due to Covid-19, which at the time was at its height.
