ANTI-COVID VACCINATION CAMPAIGN: THE ORGANIZATION IN LOMBARDY
The national anti-Covid vaccination campaign will start in early January and will be coordinated by the government and by the commissioner structure headed by Dr. Arcuri. Contact person for Lombardy will be Dr. Giacomo Lucchini, who will deal with the executive and operational phases.
“In this first phase there was the need to identify 65 structures that could act as regional hubs for the distribution of vaccines (together with Pfizer / BioNTech, there will be a total of 6 developed in the world that could be adopted in the next years also in Italy , ed) », Explains Lucchini. “Given the particularity of the Region, the 65 identified hubs have been chosen in such a way as to ensure complete geographical coverage and at the same time an adequate storage and management capacity (ie the presence of an ultrafreezer), as required by the vaccine developed by Pfizer. Over 150 hospitals in the region and all the RSAs will refer to these 65 structures. Each of these 65 hubs will refer to all the structures within a maximum radius of 60 minutes, for territorial coverage and administration “.
The categories identified for the first vaccination, according to national provisions, will be made up, as regards Lombardy, of 278,050 health and social health workers (including emergency workers and local doctors) and 58,130 guests of the RSAs (which in Lombardy are over 700 structures). The total number of vaccinators in this first phase will be 336,076 subjects. Based on further deliveries from Pfizer and other companies, there will also be other categories.
Deliveries to the hubs of vaccine doses will be organized weekly, with confirmation of the subsequent ones already upon delivery of the first. This is to ensure that the overall doses of the administration can be planned, since the Pfizer vaccine withdraws a booster dose after 21 days from the first.
The date of the first Pfizer delivery will be December 28 and will continue until January 4, 2021. This will allow the launch of the campaign which will have a first phase spread over three weeks. In the first week the operators of the Hubs will be vaccinated, in the second those of the various hospitals, in the third the guests of the RSAs. The organization of the administrations will take place on a local basis, so the structures involved will plan the operational phases in their territories, making use, in these first phase of the plan dedicated to the healthcare professionals of Lombardy, of their own healthcare personnel and their own operating system.
