CNN management and business expert Antonio Batista da Silva Jr. spoke this Friday (10) about the movement of several companies that have suspended their business in Russia as a measure against the war with Ukraine.
“What we see now is a movement opposite to what happened after the collapse of the Soviet Union, when several companies rushed to enter the Russian market,” he explains.
Batista comments that even when Russia encouraged Crimean separatist groups in 2014, there were not so many sanctions. He also points out that Brazilian companies, such as Embraer and Weg, also decided to paralyze their operations in the country.
The reason companies decide to do this is the external pressure they suffer, mainly from the governments of their countries. “It’s politics winning over the economy”, the expert explains.
In addition, corporations are also influenced by pressure from their investors, as most of these businesses are publicly traded. “Companies want to protect their reputation,” according to Batista.
