O CNN Specialist Antonio Batista da Silva Junior spoke about small and medium-sized businesses and how their relevance to society has become even more evident since the beginning of the pandemic. “Last year alone, small businesses were responsible for 70% of the jobs created, they are responsible for more than half of the GDP of this sector”, he explains.
However, Covid-19 also accentuated the contrast between the ability to generate income and the ability to survive more critical moments, such as social isolation and the accelerated digitization of the market. The expert cites a global study that found that 25% of small businesses had closed down during the first year of the pandemic.
“Medium and small companies experience the impacts of these moments with much more emphasis. If companies were cars, they would be vehicles with fewer airbags to protect themselves”, Batista explains.
He lists some choices that are decisive to increase the resilience of these businesses. The first is good strategic thinking, the ability to plan for the future. In addition, it is important that leaders are aware of trends to ensure innovation and competitiveness. And also the ability to adapt, make decisions with agility to recalculate routes if necessary.
