Antonio Guterres for Cyprus: “Today there has been substantial progress”- discussions were carried out in a constructive atmosphere

“From the beginning of my term, I have been committed to the security and prosperity of Cypriots, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots,” UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres said in a statement after the end of the informal expanded conference on the Cyprus issue. “Today was another attempt to find a road forward,” he said. “These discussions were held in a constructive atmosphere, with both sides showing a clear commitment to progress and continued dialogue.” As he pointed out, Tatar and Christodoulides agreed to the following initiatives to build confidence: opening four passing points, derogation, creating youth technical committee, environmental initiatives and climate change, including impacts in the areas of mining. “We have agreed to have this form in the next meeting in late July and I will appoint a personal envoy to prepare the next steps,” he said.
