The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) approved, on Monday (26), the second product for the diagnosis of the monkeypox virus, which causes monkeypox, in Brazil.
The new product registered by is the molecular kit manufactured by the Institute of Technology in Immunobiologicals (Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz), which allows the identification of the circulating West African viral strain. The diagnosis can be made from samples obtained from the skin lesions of patients who show symptoms of infection (see below).
According to Anvisa, the product was initially developed to be an assay also capable of identifying the Congo strain. However, this capability has not been validated and approved by Anvisa and cannot be used for diagnostic purposes.
