Anvisa asks for names who were in flight with a man infected with monkeypox in RJ

After the first confirmed case of monkeypox in Rio de Janeiro, the State Department of Health reported that the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) asked the airline where the infected man traveled, for the list of passengers who were on this flight. . According to the secretary, the people already identified who had contact with the patient are being monitored by the Center for Strategic Information on Health Surveillance (CIEVS) of the municipality and the state.

This is the only confirmed case in the state so far. The 38-year-old patient, who lives in London, arrived in the city of Rio de Janeiro on the 11th. The man sought medical care at the Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectious Diseases (INI/Fiocruz) the day after his arrival, after feeling bad.

The Ministry of Health recommends that state departments “monitor contacts until the results of laboratory tests in suspected cases and for a period of 21 days, from the last contact, with a probable or confirmed patient”, informed the SES.

“There is no need to isolate asymptomatic contacts. Asymptomatic contacts should not donate blood, cells, tissues, organs, breast milk or semen during monitoring. In case the contact is a visitor or companion, they must be instructed not to return to the service, in the role of visitor or companion, before the period of 21 days.

There are currently six confirmed cases of monkeypox across the country. All of them imported. That is, they came in patients who were traveling outside the country and entered Brazil with the virus.

There are four cases and São Paulo, one in Rio Grande do Sul and one in Rio de Janeiro. The sixth case, in São Paulo, was confirmed this Thursday (16). In addition, there are 13 possible cases under investigation.

Monkeypox is an infectious disease found mainly in West and Central Africa. The transmission of the pathology occurs through direct contact with an infected person who has skin lesions, or through droplets of saliva.

Those who show symptoms should look for a health unit to be evaluated, according to the guidance of the authorities. Initially, symptoms may be flu-like, such as fever, chills, exhaustion, headache, and muscle weakness, followed by swelling in the lymph nodes, which help the body fight infection and illness.
