The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) once again banned the sale of alcohol liquid 70%. The sale of the product had been authorized in 2020 in response to the health emergency of the Covid-19 pandemic, but the deadline for the last authorization expired in December last year.
According to information from Agência Brasil, establishments that still have stocks of the product will have until April 30th to exhaust them and remove them from circulation.
According to the Federal Pharmacy Council (CFF), sales are now restricted to places such as hospitals, laboratories and companies, “which require specific sterilization”.
It is important to highlight that the sale of the gel product, which has the same cleaning effectiveness, remains open.
According to the regulatory body, the decision to ban the sale of alcohol 70% in the liquid version was due to the product being highly flammable.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the sale of the product was already prohibited. The decision to remove the product from the market took place in 2002 due to the high number of accidents caused by burns and ingestion, mainly involving children.
