The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) released, this Friday (24), a note in which it reinforces that vaccines against Covid-19 approved by the agency for application in Brazil are effective and safe.
“Covid-19 vaccines were developed using scientific methods that have been around for decades. Vaccines continue under the most intensive safety monitoring in world history in different countries with a strong regulatory structure”, says the note from Anvisa.
Risks of non-vaccination
Anvisa warns that children and adults can contract Covid-19 and become seriously ill. In addition to hospitalization, the disease can cause sequelae and damage to health that can persist for several weeks – the so-called long Covid.
The note emphasizes that the authorization for the inclusion of children aged 5 to 11 years in the package insert of the Pfizer vaccine is not intended to make vaccination of this age group mandatory.
“The Agency, in fulfilling its legal attribution provided for in Law 9,782/1999 to assess the quality, efficacy and safety of the vaccine, allows the vaccine to be made available to the population, after a rigorous technical analysis that ensures its use within the established conditions in the package insert”, says Anvisa.
