The Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) said this Sunday (2) that it will investigate possible irregularities on cruises that registered positive cases of Covid-19 on board.
This Sunday, at least 20 passengers who tested positive for Covid-19 and 40 contacts who were on the MSC Preziosa ship disembarked in Rio de Janeiro.
The ship is not the only one under supervision, details Anvisa. The Costa Diadema and MSC Splendida vessels had their activities suspended and the continuation of the voyage paralyzed.
“Anvisa continues to supervise the other vessels operating on the Brazilian coast and has already intensified epidemiological and sanitary investigation actions to control the transmission of Sars-Cov-2 on board vessels and the spread of the disease,” says the agency.
“Among the penalties are fines and even the suspension of vessel activities. Anvisa will also inform the other control bodies”, says the body.
In the note, the agency emphasizes that it may suspend the activities of vessels “due to the identification of risks to public health or non-compliance with current sanitary regulations” and says that it had already recommended the suspension of the cruise ship season at this time in the country.
The position should be reiterated to the Ministry of Health on Monday (3), says the body.
“Anvisa reiterates the need for a provisional suspension of cruise ship activities, until evidence of non-compliance with sanitary protocols by the companies responsible for the vessels is verified, that there is an adequate federative articulation involving the municipalities that will receive the ships and, above all, the change in the epidemiological scenario”, says the note.
