Anya Taylor-Joy talked about his character in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga ” and said she struggled to include a moment in the plot where she could demonstrate an outburst of anger, in contrast to the coldness of most of the film.
In an interview with The New York Times, the actress said she had to convince director George Miller to include a moment of “female anger” on screen, as her character is very introspective.
“I want to 100% start off by saying that I love George and if you're going to do something like this, you want to be in the hands of someone like George Miller,” she said. “But he had a very, very strict idea of what Furiosa's war expression would look like, and that only allowed me to express myself through my eyes for a large part of the film. It was very 'closed mouth, no emotion, talk with your eyes'. That’s it, that’s all you have.”
Taylor-Joy said she's a little tired of female characters who don't show strong emotions in the face of hardship, which is why she convinced Miller that Furiosa deserved to have an outburst moment.
“I am a strong supporter of female anger,” she said. “We are animals and there comes a point where you just explode. There’s a scream in that film, and I’m not kidding when I say I fought for that scream for three months.”
The actress also opened up about her experience during filming, and said that she spent months on set without saying a single line of dialogue, due to the character's introspection.
“I have never been more alone than when making that film. I don’t want to get too deep into this, but everything I thought would be easy was hard,” she added.
