One of the two people who died after intense shooting in the north of Rio de Janeiro this Thursday morning (24) was app driver Paulo Roberto de Souza, 60 years old.
Souza was hit in the head while running along Avenida Brasil. After being shot, the passenger in his car took over the wheel and tried to rescue the driver.
The professional was taken to the municipal hospital Dr. Moacyr Rodrigues do Carmo, in Duque de Caxias, Baixada Fluminense. However, according to the municipal health department, Souza arrived at the unit dead.
The other fatal victim was Renato Oliveira, 48 years old. He was on a bus when he was shot. Oliveira underwent surgery at the Federal Hospital of Bonsucesso, but did not survive and died.
Four other people were injured as a result of the shooting, one of which, a 49-year-old man, is considered to be in a very serious condition.
According to the Military Police, the shooting began after an operation in the Israel Complex. Avenida Brasil was closed in both directions and traffic was reopened at around 10:15 am. Five train stations were closed.
