Apparel sector should earn R$ 153 billion in 2022, predicts association

The Brazilian clothing sector should earn more than R$ 153 billion by the end of this year. The projection is from the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit). If the result materializes, the segment will register an increase of 2.7% compared to 2021.

According to the survey obtained by the CNN the Brazilian states that most contribute to this positive scenario for the sector are São Paulo (27%), Santa Catarina (17%), Minas Gerais (13%), Paraná (8%) and Rio de Janeiro (8%).

Currently, Brazil has around 18 thousand companies in the clothing sector in operation, with the generation of 957 thousand direct jobs, according to official data from Abit. In 2022, the segment is expected to produce 5.3 billion pieces of clothing.

“2021 was already a very good year, but the current year positively surprised us with greater demand, especially in the South and Southeast regions. To meet the increase in demand, it was even necessary to increase production”, comments Tálita Forlin, representative of the sector.

However, this year’s good results were still not enough for the segment’s full recovery compared to periods prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Abit, the apparel sector recorded revenues of BRL 186 million in 2019.
