Apple has agreed to pre-install programs from Russian developers on their mobile devices when they are first set up. It is known that starting from April 1, upon activation of a new Apple device purchased in Russia, users will be able to immediately install applications from Russian developers. The ministry emphasized that when setting up a new smartphone, Russians will see a dialog box with a recommended, not a mandatory list of programs. The user can easily refuse the installation if he does not want to use Russian software.
The ministry also noted that negotiations with Apple are currently underway to create a separate collection of Russian applications in the App Store. For more than 10 years of operation, the American application store has established itself as a reliable place for finding and downloading programs, and therefore the government considers it an excellent platform for the development of Russian developments.
Recall that, according to the amendments to the law “On Protection of Consumer Rights”, the programs of Russian developers must be installed on all mobile devices, tablets, portable and stationary computers sold in the Russian Federation from April 1, 2021. The government has already approved a list of applications for pre-installation, the list of which includes the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki, the Yandex search engine, the Gosuslugi service, the Marusya voice assistant, Mail.ru mail, and the ICQ messenger. The Ministry noted that the list could be expanded.
