According to Patently Apple, Apple has filed for a new patent called “Interaction with Wireless Headphones” that confirms the replacement of the Digital Crown with a touch surface. Apple is currently using the Digital Crown to control audio on AirPods Max.
Previously, the tech giant received a patent for touch-controlled smart fabrics for full-size headphones. The brand has received two more patents for providing users with touch input on the outside of the ear pads.

Using this information, it’s not hard to see that the company is currently working on creating touch controls for future AirPods Max 2 headphones. However, even the fact of obtaining a patent does not guarantee that this technology will eventually be used in new headphones.
Apple is expected to release the AirPods Pro 2 fully wireless earbuds in the coming months. According to reports, they will receive an updated design and a new single-chip system that will replace the Apple H1. This will lead to an increase in the operating time without recharging. Smooth switching between connected devices is also expected. In addition, there are rumors that they have built-in sensors for tracking exercise.
