The Apple Music service has had music in Lossless Audio format for more than six months, but the problem is that this format cannot be properly implemented with wireless headphones due to Bluetooth bandwidth limitations. Can Apple simply abandon Bluetooth in favor of some other interface, perhaps even proprietary?
A recent patent shows that it can. True, the technology described in the patent is not the most convenient. We are talking about an optical data transmission channel, the bandwidth of which is enough for Lossless Audio.
The problem is that such a solution requires that the source and receiver be in direct line of sight to each other. That is, launching music on a smartphone and putting it in your pocket will not work. Here you will already need regular Bluetooth, which can act as a backup data transmission channel.
Considering that the images in the patent show an augmented or virtual reality headset, it is possible that Apple will apply this technology in it. Sources, of course, suggest its presence in the AirPods Pro 2, as one of Apple’s top managers previously hinted at some kind of new development in this area, but so far there is no confirmation.
