Apple celebrates 10 years of the Mac App Store.
Unlike the mobile App Store, which debuted on the iPhone in July 2008, the App Store for Apple computers didn’t appear until January 6, 2011. It became part of the Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.6 operating system.
A day after the start of the Mac App Store, the company announced that it had reached one million downloads. Then Steve Jobs, the head of Apple, made a comment:
We never imagined that the Mac App Store would receive such an incredible response. The developers have done an excellent job of submitting their applications to the online store, and users are thrilled with the convenience and experience that the Mac App Store has to offer. “
