Apple copies Xiaomi: ads will appear in branded iPhone and iPad applications

Xiaomi gained popularity thanks to its unusual strategy: the company sold devices at the lowest possible cost (against the background of competitors, the difference was really visible), earning mainly from advertising built into the firmware. Now the Chinese corporation is moving along a slightly different path, but Apple, on the contrary, plans to partially follow in the footsteps of Xiaomi and expand the advertising business through its own branded applications. This is reported by authoritative insider Mark Gurman (Mark Gurman), writing for Bloomberg.

Apple has already embedded advertising in the App Store and News, but does not plan to stop there – it is reported that the company is going to monetize Maps, Podcasts, and Books with the help of advertising.

Describing the incorporation of ads into Maps, Gurman says Apple will allow restaurants and similar businesses to pay for higher rankings. In addition, ads will appear in other sections of the application – they will always be marked in a special way so that users can immediately distinguish ads from ordinary information.

Earlier, Todd Teresi, Apple’s vice president of advertising platforms, reportedly announced a drive to increase the company’s current $4 billion ad revenue to “double digits,” more than doubling it. Apparently, embedding ads in more branded applications is one of the methods to achieve the goal.
