Apple could bring 25% of iPhone production to India by 2025, says JPMorgan

Apple could produce one in four iPhones in India by 2025, analysts at JPMorgan said on Wednesday, as the tech giant shifts some of its manufacturing from China amid rising geopolitical tensions and lockdowns in China. country.

JPMorgan expects Apple to move about 5% of iPhone 14 production by the end of 2022 to India, which is the world’s second-largest smartphone market after China.

Analysts at the US bank also estimate that about 25% of all the company’s products, including Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods, will be manufactured outside China by 2025, up from 5% today.

Apple has staked big in India since it started assembling the iPhone there in 2017 through Wistron and then Foxconn, in line with the Indian government’s push for local manufacturing.

“Taiwanese suppliers like Hon Hai and Pegatron play a key role in the relocation to India. In the medium to long term, we also expect Apple to qualify local manufacturing suppliers in India,” said JPMorgan analysts led by Gokul Hariharan.
