The keyboard is primarily intended for the new iMacs, but of course, many people use such devices for other PCs as well. As it turned out, this keyboard for most existing owners of certain Macs will not be a particularly interesting option.
And the point is not even that the new Magic Keyboard will only ship with the new iMac for now and will not be sold separately. The problem is that it will only work fully with Apple computers based on the SoC M1. More specifically, TouchID will not work with older Macs on Intel processors, because it requires the latest version of the Secure Enclave security subsystem, and it is integrated into the Apple M1 and is absent from the Apple T2 chips that were used in Apple computers with an Intel CPU.
