Apple employees are opposed to a new policy that requires them to return to the office three days a week from early September. The Verge has received a letter sent by employees to Apple executives. In it, employees say they want a more flexible approach and the ability to continue working remotely.
We would like to take this opportunity to report the growing concern among our colleagues. Apple’s telecommuting / flexible location policy and communication around it has already forced some of our colleagues to leave. Many of us feel we must choose between our families and well-being, and the ability to do our jobs and be part of Apple.
This letter was published two days after Tim Cook sent out a message to Apple employees that they would need to return to the office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in the fall.
It is worth adding that this approach differs from that of other large companies. Both Twitter and Facebook have told employees that they can work from home on a full-time basis, even after the pandemic is over.
Over the past year, we have often felt not just unheard, but at times actively ignored. Messages such as “we know that many of you want to meet in person with your colleagues in the office again,” without proof that we have exactly the opposite feelings, make us feel neglected.
About 80 Apple employees were involved in writing and editing the note, and in total there are 2800 “supporters of remote work”.
