Apple is banning employees from using ChatGPT and any similar technology until the company builds its own chatbot.
Tech giant Apple has banned its employees from using ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, for fear that corporate data could be compromised. This is reported The Wall Street Journal.
The publication, citing internal documents from the company, said that now Apple employees cannot use ChatGPT and other similar AI tools until the company develops its own artificial intelligence technology. The document also mentions a limitation on the GitHub Copilot artificial intelligence tool, a Microsoft-owned application that automates the writing of code.
The reason for this decision is that the company’s management is concerned that employees use programs and disclose company confidential information.
ChatGPT on the App Store
It is noteworthy that earlier the developer of ChatGPT – OpenAI – launched ios app for chat bot. It synchronizes chat history with the network and supports voice input supported by the open source Whisper speech recognition model. Initially, the application will be available only for US residents, but the company promises to expand the geography in the future.
Like its browser counterpart, the ChatGPT app allows you to interact with a chatbot to ask questions without the traditional Internet search. The app works on both iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded from the App Store in America.
Who Else Banned ChatGPT
Along with Apple, several other major companies have banned the popular chatbot. Earlier this month, Samsung sent out employees a memo stating that they are prohibited from using generative AI tools, in particular ChatGPT. This decision appeared after the workers uploaded the source code to the public.
In addition, other major financial companies, including JPMorganBank of America, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup have also banned the use of AI technology.
