Apple’s fleet of self-driving cars, “plowing” the streets of sunny California for testing, now includes 69 vehicles and 92 drivers. This is reported in the documentation of the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Since May 2021, Apple has added one self-driving car and 16 drivers. Apple has been steadily expanding its autonomous vehicle testing since it was granted permission from the department to test on public roads in April 2017.
Each such Apple car is equipped with proprietary software for autonomous driving, as well as lidars and a set of cameras to monitor the environment. All this equipment is installed on the Lexus RX450h. Each such car has drivers to ensure safety.
In February, it was reported that Apple’s self-driving cars drove twice as many in 2020 as in 2019.
