In Russia, anti-monopoly officials imposed a turnover fine on Apple in the amount of RUB 906,299,392.16 (over USD 12 million) for violating antimonopoly laws. This was reported by the press service of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia.

FAS completed consideration of the antitrust case against Apple back in August 2020. It was initiated at the request of Kaspersky Lab in 2019.
As part of the investigation, it was found that Apple abused its dominant position in the distribution market for mobile applications on the iOS operating system, providing a competitive advantage to its own products and at the same time worsening the conditions for distributing competitors’ products. We’re talking about parental control apps. The FAS also established that the provisions of Apple’s documentation may lead to restriction of competition in adjacent markets.
The regulator has issued a Corrective Action Order to Apple, which requires an organization to remove from its documentation provisions that give it the right to reject third-party applications from the App Store “for any reason.” The regulation also requires Apple to ensure that in-house apps do not take precedence over third-party apps, and that developers of parental control apps can distribute apps to the App Store without losing critical functionality.
As noted by the FAS, at present, the execution of the order of the antimonopoly authority has been suspended in connection with an appeal in court.
