According to a recent report from analytics firm Newzoo, 10 public gaming companies account for 65% of the global market. Last year, this segment saw revenue growth of 10% compared to 2020. In total, gaming companies generated $126 billion in revenue, with Tencent, Sony, Apple, Microsoft, Google, NetEase, Activision Blizzard, Nintendo, EA, and Sea Limited in the top ten.
Tencent became the highest earning gaming company in the world, growing revenue by 10% and earning $32.2 billion last year. Newzoo believes that the main reason for its success lies in the increase in the number of offers, as well as online games. Sony earned $ 18.2 billion in 2021, but at the same time, the income of the Japanese decreased by 2.3%. Rounding out the top three is Apple ($15.3 billion), which, thanks to an impressive growth of 9.6%, managed to overtake Microsoft. Fourth and fifth places are occupied by Microsoft and Google with revenues of $12.9 billion and $11 billion, respectively.
Interesting fact: Activision Blizzard earned $ 8.1 billion, but if the merger with Microsoft had happened earlier, then the software giant would confidently be located in second place today. Also worth noting is Singapore-based mobile game publisher Sea Limited. Despite a relatively modest $4.3 billion in revenue, the company posted its highest growth in 2021 at 114.3%.
